Grete Jalk Her Designs, TV's, Stereo Systems
She once was called "the strong weaker sex."
That was back in the 1960s.
She was exhibiting one of her fine pieces of furniture at the Copenhagen Cabinetmakers' Exhibition.
Her name?
Grete Jalk.
Today the 87-year old furniture designer and artist has one of her pieces (the picture of the chair is the one) in the permanent collection of one of the world's greatest museums, the Museum of Modern Art of New York.
One of her biggest strengths in her designs is that she fully pioneered the concept of making her furniture accessible to modern lifestyles.
An example, teak units capable of holding televisions and stereo systems.
We have provided a link to an article from the New York Times that talks about modern furniture and what it should be.
Needless to say Jalk is mentioned in it.
Quite a good read. It gives all the elements of what good modern furniture is all about.
A Free Newsletter - It's All About Vancouver
Our travels around the world have confirmed one thing.
Vancouver is one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
Funny, how we often forget about that.
But every time we go abroad and come back we are reminded of that fact.
We have great restaurants, great boutiques, great outdoor activities and a host of other wonderful things we can enjoy.
We have found that there is an easy way to keep on top of all of that.
It's a newsletter called the Savvy Insider. We have been subscribing to it since its inception about eight months ago.
It is full of solid useful information, about great restaurants and places to shop. Where you can do things on the weekend. What movies are worthwhile renting or watching when they first come out.
Every Thursday their full edition is called Savvy Deals, a great guide to all the wonderful bargains that can be had if you shop around.
And on Friday, it's Living Green, again solid information about how we all can make the world a more environmentally friendly place and useful and easy to use tip on how to become more of a Living Green person.
The newsletter is free, informative and fun to read.
Take a look for yourself.
