Sleek, Stylish and Modern The Students' Work
Students.
It is always exciting what they come up with.
This is especially true if they are design students.
One thing is certain designs from northern Europe such as Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Norway have a unique look.
The lines are clean, sleek and so elegant.
Here are some examples of what students from the faculty of design at The Oslo Academy of the Arts produced at the recent Stockholm Furniture Fair.
In one word - stunning.
This Month's Designer - Eileen Gray
She was a pioneer.
A pioneer in modern design.
Her heydays were in the 120s and 1930s.
She wasn't Danish.
She was Irish and her name was Eileen Gray.
She is considered the equivalent of modern icons of design such as Corbusier, Mies van der Rohe and Marcel Breuer.
Her tubular steel furniture was revolutionary in its day, and is now accepted as classic.
She had two careers.
Her first one was designing furniture.
Her second one was that of an architect.
Find out more about Gray and see examples of her stunning modern pieces of furniture.
The World Of Indoor And Outdoor Design
Mark it on your calendar.
Wednesday, Feb. 18 to Sunday, Feb. 22.
It's the annual B.C. Home and Garden Show at B.C. Place.
And now more than ever, it's time to get inspired with some new ideas.
One of the more interesting displays should be a house that is a little over 550 square feet big.
What will it look like, what will be in it and how comfortable will it be?
Also the federal government's decision to give all of us a gift in the form of a tax rebate if we renovate our homes or apartments should give us plenty of incentive to check out the show.
And what a better place than the home and garden show to get some inspiration for those renovations.
